NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti still, despite the presence in the line of video cards based on the Pascal architecture, remains the leader in performance. Almost any game in any capacity runs on it without problems. True, the buyer will have to pay at least 600$ for a fee of this level. And the choice will be quite limited. Whether it was worth changing the cooling system on NVIDIA’s reference board is the main question of our review.

Appearance and equipment

Close partners get the opportunity to develop their own PCB and squeeze the last drops of performance. Although, NVIDIA, for example, usually forbids unilaterally increasing power consumption, changing fundamental settings in the BIOS, etc. Therefore, manufacturers go in two ways:

  • Leave the printed circuit board unchanged and replace the cooling system;
  • Design your own PCB and cooling system;

In the second case, the manufacturer will have to obtain a certificate from NVIDIA and pass all the tests. Not only that, spend a lot of time changing the base BIOS firmware, and again get confirmation from NVIDIA. Naturally, not very large partners will not physically bear such expenses, and they resort to the first method. It is economical and allows you to improve the most vulnerable part of the video card — cooling. After all, it is it that affects attractiveness in the first place. In addition, additional savings are achieved by the absence of expenses for maintaining a group of programmers for BIOS programming.

PNY didn’t change the basic PCB design, they just changed the cooling. Alas, the savings touched the BIOS. In his code, the fan control algorithm remained unchanged. Therefore, in idle time, the video card does not disable them. Another disappointment was an absolutely ascetic kit — only a video card and a brief instruction. But thanks to this, the price of the board will be less than that of competitors.

Video outputs and supported modes

We overclock both video cards and get a noticeable difference: NVIDIA — up to 2950 rpm at a frequency of 1837 MHz and a noise level of 45 dBa, and PNY — up to 2250 rpm at a frequency of 1900 MHz and a noise level of only 38.6 dBa.

ScheduleThe measurements of the power consumption of these video cards have finally been dotted over the «i». Thanks to an efficient cooling system, the PNY video card seriously breaks away precisely in overclocking mode. The distance between them increases to 25 watts, provided that the latter is 100 MHz higher. In normal mode, NVIDIA consumes 238 watts, PNY — 243 watts. By increasing the power consumption through the overclocking settings panel, it increases for the former to 281 watts, and for the latter only to 256 watts.
