Lenovo is reimagining the Yoga line and starting with a new generation of devices, it includes not only transformers, but also chic entertainment devices with a classic laptop design. Thus, from now on, yoga device buyers no longer automatically receive a 360-degree hinge and a touch display. However, the Yoga C930-13IKB we tested in the maximum configuration offers all this and even more.

Advantages

extremely fast SSD
high system performance
quality case

the stylus is placed in the case
good battery life and light weight

Flaws

no SD card reader
glare display
Removing the stylus is somewhat awkward

The case, made of aluminum, immediately makes an excellent impression of the quality of workmanship. The back of the display isn’t just grey: it has a prominent dot pattern underneath the glass surface. While the ThinkPad lineup with its classic, understated matte finish may seem boring to some, the dark silver Lenovo Yoga C930 with its artfully designed back and sanded corners is a real eye-catcher — and that’s without the bright color accents.

Test and review Lenovo Yoga C930-13IKB: the true At the same time, there are few interfaces in the case: in addition to the headphone audio jack, here you can find two USB Type-C with Thunderbolt-3 support, through which the device can also be charged. Fortunately, in addition to this, there is a classic USB 3.0 Type-A interface. The manufacturer refused everything else, for example, a card reader and an RJ45 port for a LAN connection. An external monitor can also only be connected via an adapter plugged into the USB-C port.

The next two points are of interest. Firstly, the Power button is located on the side (so that the device can be turned on / off in tablet mode) and in the same plane with the body. Due to this, the probability of turning off the device by negligence is significantly reduced. Secondly, on the back side there is Lenovo Active Pen 2, which is completely hidden in the bowels of the case, where it is charged. The spring mechanism is designed in such a way that the stylus extends enough, but it still takes a little training to remove it. Unfortunately, the stylus must be pressed so that it plunges into the case quite far. With thick fingers, this will not be so easy.

Display and mobility Lenovo Yoga C930-13IKB

The display with a diagonal of 13.9 inches offers a UHD resolution of 3840×2160 pixels and is very glare due to the glass coating. Thus, in combination with a rather low maximum brightness for this price segment, using the device outdoors will only be pleasant to a certain extent.

Test and review Lenovo Yoga C930-13IKB: the true The rest of the display, however, is decent: 97% coverage of the Standard-RGB color space, and the stability of the viewing angles is very good, which ultimately gives this model a high mark in the Display test category. The Lenovo Yoga C930 panel covers the Adobe-RGB color space by 75%. Thus, graphics users will need to look elsewhere.

The display bezels turned out to be very narrow, which positively affects the appearance as a whole. On the top edge is a small webcam that can be covered with a special shutter. Here you don’t have to think that someone will spy on you through the camera or you may accidentally appear on the video conference screen in pajamas.

The high resolution of the display did not affect the results of measurements of battery life: ten hours of video playback and more than five hours of productive use (PCMark 8 Work) are noteworthy. In addition, the case turned out to be thin (from 15.8 to 16.5 mm) and light (1.37 kg).

Input devices and performance

No questions — Lenovo knows how to make very good input devices. Here, too, the keyboard on this model is very good, even if the free travel height of the keys cannot be compared with that of the ThinkPad. However, the keyboard is pleasant to use due to its good pressure resistance. The clickpad has a very smooth surface on which it is pleasant to slide your finger. In addition, under the right arrow key is a fingerprint scanner.

Test and review Lenovo Yoga C930-13IKB: the true In the maximum configuration, Lenovo installs an Intel Core i7-8550U with four cores and a maximum clock speed of 4 GHz. Together with 16 GB of RAM and an extremely fast 1 TB SSD, the device demonstrates very high performance figures, but despite this, even under full load it remains quiet — but still audible.

Less Memory Alternative: Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga 20M7 (20M7001BGE)

Test and review Lenovo Yoga C930-13IKB: the true If you prefer a thin ThinkPad and can forego large amounts of RAM and disk space, look at a device that is more affordable. With a 13.3-inch diagonal, it offers Full-HD resolution with 1920×1080 pixels. The display specs are identical except for minor nuances, and the eighth-gen Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage, while not as chic, will be sufficient for many. And in terms of interfaces, the manufacturer is a little more generous here: 2x USB Type-C without Thunderbolt, but 2x USB Type-A, HDMI, Micro-SD card reader and even a gigabit Internet connector via the included adapter. The stylus is also hidden and charged in the case. Overall, the ThinkPad L380 Yoga is thin, quiet, slightly less powerful, and substantially cheaper.
