How much does a good 10-inch tablet cost today? HUAWEI MatePad with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage can be bought for 210$. And realme Pad with 6/128 GB is offered for 25,000. But we found a tablet that is almost half the price, but is practically not inferior to popular models in terms of characteristics: Blackview Tab 13. True, it is not sold in Russian retail, but you can order on AliExpress with global firmware and the presence of the Russian language. Of course, we wanted to get to know him better. If you are comfortable with the video format, check out our short review with the main features of this tablet, and if it is more pleasant to read, scroll on.
The Blackview Tab 13 is very thin (7.7mm, almost the same as the Apple iPad 2021) and relatively light for a 10-inch (450 grams).
The package also includes a protective case with a lid and glass. There is no factory film on the screen.
On the right side of the tablet are traditionally the volume control buttons. On the bottom there is a slot for SIM cards and a memory card, as well as a USB-C connector.
There are two speakers at the top and bottom, so the sound is stereo. True, they were installed too close to the left side, and in landscape orientation, you should try not to block the holes with your fingers.
There is also a mysterious interface on the left side — these are the contacts for connecting the keyboard.
The screen occupies 81% of the total area of the front panel. In this case, the frames around are the same on all sides. The camera is in the right frame (if you hold the tablet vertically).
On the back surface is a camera block with a well-recognized design. The diagonal arrangement of the lenses makes it look like a similar element of the iPhone, but it is hardly worth carving.
Diagonal: 10.1 inches, IPS
Resolution: 1920×1200 pixels
Brightness: 300 nits
The screen is quite typical for devices of this class. Full HD resolution, 300 nits of brightness is enough for outdoor work, but colors are lost under the sun. The settings provide two modes to reduce eye fatigue: a dark theme and a night light (that is, a blue filter). The latter can be adjusted in intensity and turned on according to a schedule, but there is no schedule for the dark theme.
In addition, the color temperature can be adjusted in the main mode: for example, make the colors a little warmer.
Film or glass on the screen: is there a difference and which is better to buy
Main: 13 MP + 2 MP auxiliary sensor
Front: 8 MP
The main camera has a sufficient resolution by the standards of such devices: 13 megapixels. The camera of the much more expensive HUAWEI MatePad 10.4 tablet has exactly the same number of megapixels. The budget realme Pad, the closest competitor to the Blackview Tab 13, has only 8 megapixels. In addition, our hero has an auxiliary sensor, so the photography capabilities can be called advanced. There is no special variety of modes here: video, photo, monochrome and manual modes.
The front has a resolution of 8 megapixels, and that’s all you need to know about it. The picture on the video call is excellent, but taking selfies with a 10-inch tablet is not very convenient.
Processor: MediaTek Helio G85
RAM: 6 GB expandable up to 10 GB
Storage: 128 GB
RAM expansion technologies have come to tablets. The stock of RAM in the Blackview Tab 13 is already quite good (6 GB), so if necessary, you can bring it up to 10 GB by reserving a fragment of flash memory. It’s hard to say in which scenarios you’ll need it.
As for the drive itself, here it is 128 GB, which corresponds to the best representatives of its class. MediaTek Helio G85 needs no introduction: a good processor for budget devices. Tests in GeekBench 5 confirm the good performance of the tablet.
One of the nice features of the tablet is the desktop mode. It is enabled in the settings, while it is desirable to pre-connect a keyboard and mouse. In desktop mode, the interface becomes as similar as possible to Windows: there is a desktop, and applications open in separate windows.
A very fun feature is to put applications in the Freezer. For example, if it annoys you or runs in the background, although this is not necessary. We click on the icon «Freezers», click «Add» and add an annoying application. Its launch will be automatically blocked.
True, almost only games can be “frozen” from default applications, but downloaded software may also be included in the list.
WiFi 2.4/5 GHz
Of course, Blackview Tab 13 supports 4G. But it has one more feature: built-in e-SIM with internet from SIMO. Simply put, you can subscribe to one of the SIMO tariffs and get mobile internet in 135 countries at no extra charge. And you can only pay for the days you travel. When traveling, a tablet with a built-in SIMO module connects to partner mobile networks, and there is no need to look for Wi-Fi. Everything would be fine, but in Russia this feature does not work yet. Yes, and travel to different countries have become not particularly relevant.
The logical question is: will the 4G connection of the Chinese tablet work with Russian operators. We tested it on SIM cards from MTS and Beeline: they work, and with a decent speed. Blackview Tab 13 supports three of the five Russian bands (frequency ranges): 3.7 and 20. So there should be no problems.
Battery capacity: 7280 mAh
And again we compare with competitors: most inexpensive tablets with a 10-inch screen have about the same battery capacity. The only thing that upsets the Blackview Tab 13 is the lack of support for fast charging. The kit includes a 10-watt adapter, and charging with it takes about 3.5 hours.
But as for autonomy, there are no complaints. If you use Wi-Fi, you can watch videos for 5.5-6 hours. You will have a little more screen time when using a 4G connection and a browser.
Bottom line: our impressions of the Blackview Tab 13
To be honest, we expected at least some serious differences from the models that are officially sold in Russian retail from the Chinese tablet. But in fact, it can only be blamed for taking too long to charge and not having the best speaker placement. Otherwise, it is in no way inferior to more expensive models: a great combination of MediaTek Helio G85 with 6 GB of RAM (plus another 4 GB if necessary), a high-quality Full HD screen, fresh Android 12, a case and protective glass in the package.
On Aliexpress, the Blackview Tab 13 sells for 130$, you can save about more if you use the seller’s coupon.
