Compact and durable laptop
First of all, we liked the design and high quality of the ASUS VivoBook S14 S430UA-EB224T. Thanks to its compact dimensions of 32x23x1.9 cm and a weight of only 1.4 kg, it turned out to be very light — you can easily take a laptop with you wherever you need it. The keyboard and touchpad also make a very good impression, only opening the display lid could be made easier. On the other hand, the model from ASUS is very stable, and its case resists tipping over and deformation well.
The battery life here is also on the level: you can watch videos without recharging for 9 hours 46 minutes. In normal use, the battery will last 6 hours and 5 minutes.
Powerful but noisy
Under the hood, ASUS VivoBook has 8 GB of RAM and a quad-core processor, which generally gives good performance. However, the manufacturer abandoned the dedicated graphics card, so the laptop is not suitable for hardcore gaming.
But even without an ASUS graphics card, it turned out to be very noisy: under full load, the laptop wheezes no quieter than a powerful gaming laptop.
There is no classic hard drive here, but ASUS uses a large 256 GB SSD. There is also a webcam and several USB interfaces on board: one USB 3.0, a pair of USB 2.0 Type-A, and one USB-C. Equipment, though not outstanding, but still good enough.
Display not for designers
The VivoBook’s matte 14-inch display has high contrast but poor color reproduction. The brightness of 225 cd / m2 can be considered decent, but competitors have it even better. The screen resolution is 1920×1080 pixels, which is quite enough for 14 inches.

ASUS VivoBook S14 S430UA-EB224T is a solid laptop that is distinguished primarily by its appearance and steel body. But inside the model, a lot can be improved: there is no dedicated graphics card, the display is not suitable for processing photos and videos due to poor color reproduction, and operating noise will interfere during operation. But the VivoBook offers good battery life and decent performance.

Alternative: Acer Aspire 5
For around 400$, you can buy a good alternative: the Acer Aspire 5. This laptop, despite its affordable price, delivers very good overall performance. Not only is there a decent processor on board here, but also a dedicated graphics card. The equipment is the same as that of the Vivobook, but the autonomy is a bit more modest.
