Test results

Although the Panasonic TX-65DXR900 did not achieve a record in any of the test categories, it was very close in each of them: the picture and sound quality are top notch, the equipment is luxurious, and the Smart-TV functionality is very convincing. Critics deserve only a weak media player and a relatively high level of power consumption.

Visual impressions are confirmed by our laboratory measurements: the checkerboard contrast here is at a very good level — 220:1, and the maximum contrast ratio is an incredible 7592:1. The stability of viewing angles, however, leaves much to be desired. However, Panasonic’s model does not shy away from direct comparison with current OLED TVs, not least thanks to its impressive maximum brightness of as much as 950 cd/m2. In this parameter, only Samsung UE65KS9500 is better. Thanks to its shutter technology, this UHD TV is also convincing when displaying 3D content without crosstalk.

The presence of four speakers with a power of 10 W each and a built-in subwoofer contributes to the ideality of the home theater experience. Even in epically loud scenes, they deliver consistently good and rich sound.

Luxurious equipment and a wonderful Smart-TV system

You can provide content to the Panasonic TX-65DXR900 via four HDMI ports, an integrated triple tuner or three USB ports. In terms of playback of film materials with the built-in player, Panasonic continues to demonstrate the weakness in supporting various formats that has already become traditional for this manufacturer. In particular, this TV model does not support DivX or DTS content. For a device in this price range, this is unacceptable.

Except for the shortcomings of the media player, the manufacturer’s own Smart-TV system is quite convincing. All major apps like Facebook, YouTube and Netflix are already preinstalled. In addition, many other programs are available for download in the integrated store. Of course, the Panasonic system does not offer the same extensive expansion options as Android TV.

Numerous Smart-TV interfaces and functionality make the Panasonic TX-65DXR900 a real equipment monster

Superior control, high energy consumption

The Smart-TV system can be controlled by your choice either with a classic main remote control with illuminated buttons, or a second remote control with an integrated trackpad. In both cases, everything works very reliably and quickly.

The power consumption level (220 W) in normal operation is very high due to the extremely high brightness. However, the integrated economy mode allows you to reduce it a little. In general, the energy efficiency of the device meets the criteria for the EU label «B».

Alternatives

Strong mid-range: Sony KD-65XD9305

Sony KD-65XD9305Thanks to Slim Backlight Drive technology, the Sony KD-65XD9305 TV offers even better picture quality than the Panasonic model we tested. What’s more, this 65-inch device impresses with its luxurious equipment, Android TV and excellent user-friendliness. The sound quality here is also well above average, although it can’t match Panasonic’s. But the level of electricity consumption is much lower — about 157 watts. The same goes for the price — a Sony TV can be obtained by paying 2100$.

Perfect picture: luxury model Panasonic TX-65CZW954

Panasonic TX-65CZW954With an OLED display and near-perfect lab measurements, the Panasonic TX-65CZW954 sets new standards in image quality. In addition, there are six 10 W speakers, excellent equipment and many smart-TV functions. In terms of ergonomics and power consumption, there are practically no differences from the related model, the Panasonic TX-65DXR900. The situation is different with the price: a whopping 700 tens of dollars. worth this alternative, and therefore it can only be considered suitable for true fans of the UHD format.
